I'm not trying to excuse the poor performance of the Vikes, but there were a few horrible non-calls by the refs this game too. I believe there were a couple of 3rd & long instances where there was Def passing interference that wasn't called, even the NBC sportscasters commented on the last one on Rice. Also there was the time where to avoid a sack, Warner switched the ball to his left hand and literally dropped it in front of him with no receivers in sight, and it was called an incomplete pass.

What a satisfying victory this was. I was watching all the pregame analysis on nfl.com and everyone was predicting a Packers victory. I wonder what they're all thinking now? Vikings performed well. And remember this was WITHOUT Winfield. But, there were a few hairy moments. It wouldn't be a Vikings game without hairy moments.

My question is-how does Jarred Allen continue to have plays where he goes unblocked? The Ravens had one where they let him run free as well. Doesn't make sense.

Nice win for the old guy.

I made a correction to the first key, where the offensive line is discussed. This update is based on the latest injury report, but could change on game day. Enjoy the game and let's see if my predictions play out. Speaking of which, my prediction is: 31-20, Vikings.

Your assessment is solid. And I couldn't agree more with point number 5. The Vikings have always had this problem in my opinion. Sadly as the Vikings have discovered too many times to count, when you're ahead is the time to really step it up and play even harder. Conservative play will end up getting you conservative results.

The screen to Taylor was horrendous-not just because of the outcome. Like you said, if he catches the ball he is instantly crushed.

Like you, I too usually refrain from blaming the officiating when a team loses a game. In fact, it is one of my pet peeves to hear someone complaining about the refs when their team is down or has lost.

That said, I have to agree with your assessment here. The Vikings on Sunday were really brutalized by the penalties. Just from recall, it seemed to me while watching the game, that on top of the penalties you listed, there were others that really made a difference. Like I believe there was one where Favre completed like a 30 yrd pass on second and long only to have it called back for holding or offsides. . . and it seems like that happened more than once. In reality that's not a five yard penalty, that's a 35 yard penalty. and completely changes the game.

I should be ashamed to admit this, but as a Vikings fan, I actually took some pleasure in watching that official get clobbered during Harvin's kick off return. This would have been a completely different game had the penalties not been so lopsided. Vikings 11 penalties vs Steelers with 3? Cmon.
