Jackson Should See the Field on Sunday

The Vikings face the winless Rams, who are last (or near to last) in all the major statistical categories on defense and offense. Without boring you, I will not cite the statistics of the Rams’ futility. Just trust me on this one; they have been awful through four games.

Assuming there is no emotional letdown after the huge win over the Packers on MNF, and the Vikings build a comfortable lead against the Rams, Tarvaris Jackson should get some playing time.

So far Jackson has been disengaged, as he is NEVER seen next to Favre on the sideline going over plays or talking with Favre to soak up his knowledge of the game. Instead, Jackson has his headset on and appears to be on an island.

Playing-time on Sunday could bring Jackson back to the team by gaining some confidence with positive plays on offense. This would also serve asĀ insurance against any potential injury that may come Favres’ way. At worst, Jackson taking snaps would preserve Favre for the long haul, which is important to a team that has Superbowl aspirations.

As we all know, Favre turns 40 this Saturday and his body is not as spry as it used to be.

With Jackson softening the load against weak opponents that should be beaten easily, Favre should be fresh for the stretch-run towards Miami.
