I'm sure this will eventually run out but - I let my Gold membership lapse. Purchased a 12 month card and then Xbox allowed me to sign up for 2 months at $2 which automatically turned on auto-renwal (quickly turned off). Once that expired they had the same deal - 2 months at $2 so I did it again. I still haven't used the 12 month card I picked up damn near 6 months ago.
