Fancy Holiday Drinks

Postby miketheknife » December 15th, 2011, 10:20 am

I went kind of crazy on the alcohol recently and bought some different stuff to try out for the holidays. My wife saw a recipe for a drink that was 1 part creme de menthe, 1 part creme de cacao and 1 part cream. HOLY BALLS it is DELICIOUS. I have put in my drinking dues and have no problem putting away a few of these fancy fancingtons from time to time.

I also picked up some drambuie because I always wanted to try a Rusty Nail. Well I found out a rusty nail requires scotch and there's no way I'm using my good stuff for a mixer. (Anytime I buy nice booze I have to make my wife repeat after me "this is not for mixing with coke") So I used Seagram's instead. It was pretty good. An interesting change. Kind of sweet and licoricey.

Oh and keeping with tradition I picked up a bottle of Johnnie Walker Gold Label that the wife will be wrapping and putting under the tree for no other reason than the fact that I get to wake up Christmas morning, unwrap it and pour myself a Baby Jesus Day pick-me-up at 6 a.m.

I'm having a party this weekend and have been meaning to find a good recipe that I can have out. I think I'll be avoiding anything made of all cream based liquors.

I like this great all-season recipe. It's one part bourbon. If it's summer I will occasionally add ice/whiskey stones to cool it off.

It's definitely not something to put away pitchers of at a time. But people would frigging LOVE it. It's like a fresher, more flavorful Bailey's Mint.

Last week I poured some Apple Cider and cinnamon sticks in the crock pot and mixed in a bit of brandy. That was delicious and did not last very long.

I use Cruzan Vanilla Rum and cider. Good warm or cold and also does not last long.

I got a bottle of this from the PR folks so I asked for a holiday recipe-sounds interesting

MODERN ENGLISH

2 ½ oz BULLDOG Gin
½ oz Maple Syrup
½ Cinnamon Stick (about 1 in.)
½ Fresh Pear
2 Lemon Wedges
Cinnamon Stick for Garnish
In a tumbler, muddle all ingredients except BULLDOG Gin. Add ice and BULLDOG Gin. Shake well and double strain into a martini glass. Add garnish.
