You need to find them. What you can do is go back to the Greybeards (where you got the training) and talk to the head guy there. Every couple of days you can talk to him and get a location of a shout. Once you locate the shout, you then activate it with one of your dragon souls

Thanks for that Yem. I was wondering what was up. I've killed 7 or 8 dragons, but my shouts haven't increased. I do have a fire-breath dealio, but it's currently locked. Time to visit the Greybeards. ;)

You are making me change my opinion of Patriot fans. They're not all as bad as Phillie fans after all.

When you kill a dragon you get an orb. When you get a new shout it is locked until you go to the magic shouts menu and use an orb to unlock the shout.

Thanks I will have to head back to the grey beards. I got Ic and Fire but they are not usable. I learned kinda by accident to find the shout on the wall near the dragon roost. I ran into a nasty liche on one.

I am going to have to make Skyrim a weekend-only affair I think. I don't know many more nights of "Oh, it's only 10:30, I'll just play for a few more min--HOLY FUCK IT'S 2:00 AM" I can take.

I am really hating the mountain area in this game. It is a bitch getting to certain places.

Is that the 7000 steps? Did anyone actually really count?

Todd Howard affirms that there are actually 7,000 steps in game. In an interview he mentioned that he actually had to count all the steps to match 7,000.There are dangerous creatures for low level players on the journey to the Greybeards, so it is not reccomended you go there, even if you get the quest, till you are level 10.

Oh... and something else...

Note that at the very peak of the mountain there are two Ebony Ore deposits and two Malachite Ore deposits, along with the Notched Pickaxe.

What shooters have done to me:

Find myself wishing that Skyrim had a web-based way to check your skills and stats for comparison with your buddies.

And a tale of caution:

You can level up really quickly while raising your smithing, pickpocketing, sneaking, etc, and those are all very useful talents, but while you do that the enemies are leveling up with you and all they care about is bashing your fucking head in.

I use the crap out of a clairavoince spell to show the path to my marker. Saves me from all those dead ends.
Horses can do incredible climbs too.

Thanks for that tip Strike. I forgot about using clairvoyance. I was then able to piss off all of those treehuggers in that cave.

Evidently dragons really hate the town Riverwood in my game. Within about two days (game time) two dragons have attacked and killed most of the guards and citizens of the town.

I'm hoping this isn't the case in every town I go to.
