And please don't take it as me being someone that would love nothing more than your team going 0-16 and missing on every draft pick you ever take while blowing out every MCL that takes the field.

Everyone knows, we want nothing more than a QB solution here in Denver too, to be excited about so I get it from that perspective. Do I think Palmer will play well for you? Absolutely. Do I think he will deliver a Lombardi to you? I doubt it.

I guess I just don't see it being that big of an upgrade.

I'm seeing some analysts talking possibility. However, I still think the secondary is a problem. Once Palmer gets the playbook down, that offense will be a juggernaut. However, remind me the last time a Super Bowl was won on a gun offense alone?

I think a lot of people are blowing his so called "decline" out of proportion. They say it's been a 4 year decline. 2008 was the injury year, 2009 was a little rough, although not too far out of line with the bulk of his career stats. 2010 was better in all stats except INTs and a slight drop in rating due to that. However, when they talk "decline" that's what they bring up - the INTs. Well, I found an interesting correlation. With the exception of his rookie year, every year that Palmer has had around 600 passing attempts for the season (averaging more than 35 attempts a game), he's pushed 20 INTs. When he's kept around 500 attempts per season (or 30 or fewer attempts per game), his INTs are more around 10-13.

There is no reason to push Palmer that much in Oakland with the running game they have. Keep him to around 30 attempts a game, and he will do fine for Oakland. He's a classic example of a QB that should be a weapon for a team, not the focus.

I just heard the best argument yet, some idiot Raider fan called in and said "I think it's smart because we miss on so many of the 1st round picks we make anyway and Palmer is elite"

way to be a total dumb fuck on 2 points, my God yes since we draft poorly let's just not ever pick again in the first round, success!!

I cannot listen to this anymore

Your first mistake is expecting intelligent sports conversation on any show that takes calls.

Raider Nation is divided into 2 groups: Overly optimistic to the point of delusion, and overly pessimistic to the point they can't enjoy anything good that happens to the team. I avoid any Raider boards like the plague because of this. In fact, DFS is probably the only Raider fan I ever talk to online.

The best analysis of this came from a friend who I believe is more than a little disappointed that the Raiders won't be a 2 win team he can give me hell about. He said that the Raiders need a savvy QB with the downfield presence to keep a D honest and allow the power running game to do it's job, and Palmer is that kind of QB.

I think it shows aggression by the front office to win now and thats a HUGE gamble. We are fairly young at every position and while I think this years draft wont hurt us as that bad, we will have to be able to sign free agents and current players to stop this ship from sinking if Palmer is a shitbird. This is a typical Raiders move. Bring in the "washed up" vet and mortgage the future on him and hope fresh air cures all the old ailments. He is gonna have to make some throws because teams are gonna dare us to run it especially this week since reports are that Palmer is starting. I am not optimistic but then again I see every game we won as luck seeing as we havent put one team to bed and kept them there. Broncos had a shot, Jets had a shot, Browns had a shot, and the Texans had a shot all on the last play /drive. DMac and Bush better be ready and that line has to open up some holes for them or the season is all but done.
