Elwood's Journal

Postby Elwood » May 11th, 2011, 9:06 pm

It's been a while since I did my journal entry on STL. :(

Anyway, I continue my weight training 2-3 times a week. It seems to be going well. I started at the first of the year around 210lbs and as of today am 194lbs. Now I've started hitting the weights harder so it's only a matter of time before I start gaining again.

I've recently hit a lifting milestone....deadlift 300lbs. This is something that I haven't done in a long time and am proud to have reached it in such a short period.

that is all.

todays workout: chest, shoulders, and triceps

3 sets.....8-10 reps on first 2 sets. Do as many reps as I can on last set

bench (175, 185, 195)
upright rows (90, 100, 110)
dumbell fly (35 in each hand)
dumbell shoulder press (40, 45, 50)
dips (max reps)
barbell shrugs (225, 235, 245)
lateral raises (15, 15, 20)

finish the workout by doing pushups to muscle failure

now that I'm up to 10 reps on everything, I'll bump the weight up 5 or so lbs and go for 6-8 reps.

I mix cardio in at the beginning of the workout....bike, or elliptical.

I kept it simple today: legs, back, and biceps....3 sets....reps varied

deadlifts (185...8 reps)
leg press (450, 540[2 sets]...8 reps)
pull-ups (muscle failure)
hammer curls (muscle failure)
dumbell rows (75 each side ...8 reps)

15 min "up hill" stationary bike ride at 20% grade.

I still need to do more cardio. The good part is that I'm getting in better shape and feel good about it.

Outside the pullups your workouts would kill me. Remind me not to workout with you. :P

I tweaked my back the other day just enough not to test it with dead lifts today. Ended up doing "hills-plus" on the elliptical for 20 mins then hit legs, upper back, and biceps purdy hard.

I took the bike out for a short 6mi ride this morning then went to the gym where I did bench and pullups.

I managed to tweak my back a few days ago doing something... I chalk it up to aging. Anyway, I did legs, back, and biceps today. Due to time constraints, the workout was chopped to deadlifts, leg press, and pullups. I took it easy on the deadlifts due to the uncertainty of my back and am happy to report that it was just fine.

Side bar: I love it when people ask "Ah, this feels great doesn't it?" I want to reply,"oh yes, it's great...I love working my ass off to the point of almost puking...everybody should do it!" I typically reply, "I'll feel better after I workout."

Sticking with the normal routine although I do vary the intesity just so it's not the same ol', same ol' every time I go to the gym. Chest, shoulder, tris yesterday.....30mins on the elliptical today.
