Patch info and free DLC coming.

We have been working on updates for Brink to address the lag issue that some people have reported they were experiencing.

In the meantime, we have made a configuration change for 360 users (which will be available to the PS3, once PSN is up) that alters the number of human players when matchmaking for “Campaign” and most ‘Freeplay’ modes to eight total human players. This new configuration will allow those connecting to and hosting matches (particularly those with lower upstream bandwidth) to more reliably find and connect to quality hosts via the match-making process – resulting in less lag and more fun. This change is being rolled out today and will be available worldwide.

For players who haven’t been experienced lag, we’ll still support 8v8 on all maps via a new ‘Big Teams’ configuration in Freeplay, and through custom settings in Private matches. There is no download required for this update and it will be available automatically the next time you log in to play Brink and launch either campaign or standard Freeplay matches. This should allow players new to the Ark as well as veterans to find quality matches suitable to their preferred play style.

We are also releasing an incremental update for PC players via Steam that addresses AI, GPU, and server issues. See the full release notes on Steam. Many of these fixes are being included in the full update for the 360 and PS3 versions.

We would like to thank you for supporting Brink and for your continued feedback. To show our appreciation for your support of Brink, we will be making the first DLC for Brink available for free when it is released. This DLC is planned for June and will offer additional maps and new content for players. We’ll continue to provide announcements about the next title update, as well as the first DLC release as that information becomes available.

I'm going to have to really take the time to read the this thread and all of the reviews before I make my decision on purchasing this game. How are the bots? For example, if I were setting up a game with DomoClem and me on on a team and then rounded out both teams with bots, would that work? And do the bots play intelligently?

There are basically 2 modes overall. Challenge mode, which helps you basically learn the game controls and also can unlock different weapons and attachments (although I don't think there is a specific dominant weapon) with a succesful mission to give even more customization to your character. Challenge modes are actually easier on SP. You earn XP with every game mode and even receive it if you leave the match early.
Campaign mode and MP (always 8 vs 8, never lopsided teams) are basically the same thing, only obviously there are bots along with you on campaign to fill in your team slots if needed. The bots aren't bad. They seem to provide support and attack objectives but it doesn't beat the skill of a real teammate. There are main objectives such as defend the door or activate the crane and secondary objectives that are sort of hidden but benefit succeeding on the main objectives.

Teamwork, teamwork, teamwork! It's a teamwork based game. Hack this, blow this up, escort the prisoner, etc. K/D ratio means nothing! You will die. Often. The AI can be brutal against an uncooperative team so you need a good representation of all classes with your group. Think of it like the Battlefield series for several reasons---each of the four classes has a specific job. Engineers build things, Soldiers blow shit up, etc. Each class also has it's own perks such as Medics providing health packs or Soldiers providing ammo.
It's also much like Battlefield because the game benefits from playing with your buddies. If there were a bunch of us who are planning on getting rid of the game anytime soon I wouldn't advise picking it up. A lag free game with eight of us it would be lots of fun.
I haven't talked with anyone who really disliked the game, only some disappointments with the obvious lag and the random bitching when the AI is whipping our ass.

I finished beating all the missions with the Secuirty faction today except the 'What If' chapters.

FYI I put it on EASY difficulty for the last two missions (although still very, very hard to win) but it made it quite a more enjoyable experience.

Tactica has a nice write up on 2o2p about doing the challenges, I am going to work on those while I am suspended (it's like high school all over yay)

Basically, use a level 0 guy to do them because the AI ranks up as you do sort of like Borderlands. Do a few, start a new guy and repeat. This gets you a lot of accessories and shit, and will apply to all characters you have not just the ones you used to complete the missions.

This is how I finished all challenges but even at a level 3 or 4 was still not that easy. It is straight out of the game guide according to the site that I read it off.

I have finished every mission/challenge solo now, so I am ready for mp only. Jumped in a game at 8 am this morning and it was laggy a could be. Can't wait for an update.

Between reading posts on here and elsewhere, along with reading reviews, I'm finding it very hard to convince myself that I should get this game. Then I watch videos on XBL and I think "wow, this looks awesome". I have a feeling that this will be a lot like Shadowrun, in that there will be a core group of dedicated fans, but most people will move on.

I really wouldn't feel good myself telling anyone to run out and get it, but then again I like the game a lot so lag aside I don't have anything bad to say about it.

Will be playing it a good bit after both my XBL and real life vacations, which are around around the time we get some DLC anyhow.

Honestly, I'm kind of tortured by this situation. I wanted so badly to see this game score in the 9's. A "thinking man's shooter" with a heavy reliance on team play and AI support? How does it get any better? Yet even people who like the game have a hard time recommending it...
