Anyone know if the Nook color can be rooted for Android? Going to be looking at one of these very soon, figured I might go for the tablet since it has twice the memory built in and already has Netflix and other apps ready to go.

I may still go with the tablet because it has twice the memory built in and is more expandable. I'm guessing that it's probably also possible to jailbreak the tablet to a better version of Android as well. Pretty sure the tablet also has a faster processor.

Pretty sure I am only thinking about the Nook tablet at this point. It's smaller, cheaper and does pretty much all the things I want to do. Not to mention there is one of those giant B&N stores practically walking distance from here and they do lots of stuff in-store with Nook owners, including free support.

I will have to check it out to see if I really even need to do it since it runs some version of Android already. It's probably locked into their own marketplace and such, so I will likely want to offer it its freedom.

I'm assuming this is a warranty-voiding act, correct?

I'm not as tech savvy as you fine, upstanding fellows when it comes to this rooting business. What exactly could I do if I rooted my nook? Surf the web and what else?

you get full access to the android market place, that's the real biggie. There are some other things, but this is the main draw for me since I can get apps on there I cannot get on the B&N marketplace.
I'm tinkering with it now. Looks like it blocks access to some popular apps like Facebook and Twitter, presumably to force you to use their browser or some such thing. I was reading over the instructions for rooting the Tablet and it looks like a manageable process but I will probably hold off for a while to see if I can live with what they offer. Already has netflix, hulu plus, web browser, etc installed.
