Tiger Missing US Open

Postby mort1mer » June 7th, 2011, 10:14 pm

Tiger is out of the US Open because of his leg injury. It'll be interesting to see what happens to the ratings with his absence. I have to suspect they are down for golf in general, but will Tiger's fall from dominance have ripple effects to the rest of the tour, potentially leading to cancellation of events?

It sucks that he won't be there but it won't stop me from watching. Since it is Father's Day I lay around and watch the Open each year.

He needs this. Time to heal physically and mentally.

For many people, he's the reason they watch golf. I'm sure there was some pressure for him to return before he was fully ready

I watch golf for the out of shape, fat, beer drinking smokers... now that's golf! Just like baseball players that don't chew... really? and they let you play ball? or like basketball players that don't smoke dope...

I agree he probably needs it physically. Mentally I'm not so sure it matters anymore. It's been over a year since the whole drama went down. Tiger is not the same as he was and won't be again. He'll show flashes of brilliance, he's just that damn good. I say the armor is broken, too many other guys see it and are willing to face him in a show down.

Yeah, there are too many guys that aren't intimidated by him anymore. The mystique/intimidation isn't there anymore... unless he would make a crazy run again, it won't work on EVERYONE like it used to. I'm sure there could still be those that could be frozen by him, but its nowhere near what it was at his peak.

And to think just a few years ago not many would have doubted him topping Jack's major record.

Maybe without all the women, he's gripping the shaft too tight.

I still think he is going to do it. He's only 4 off. People seem to forget that Jack went in to a couple slumps himself. He had a couple 3-4 year stretches where he didn't win any majors. Not to mention he won 6 Majors after the age of 35

Tiger gets fully healthy, he'll do it

I agree with Yem, he'll get past 18 majors, he still has another 10 years on the Tour, at least. And the point about Nicklaus is spot on as well.

It won't be nearly as fast as he had originally hoped though.

Nobody is picking the rookie and Kenny Powers golf version of Andres Gonzales?

Not really much drama going into today with McIlroy sporting an 8 stroke lead.
