Battlefield Premium

Postby JohnnyHustler » May 30th, 2012, 12:43 pm

So, info on Battlefield Premium is leaking out. Steve and I cover some rumors in the podcast, but a one sheet came out on Joystiq today, causing some info to be outdated already.

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/05/30/report-battlefield-3-premium-service-costs-50-one-time-incl/

Apparently, it's 50 bucks, and gives access to all DLC. Interesting quote from Joystiq, however:

That, however, is where the "interesting" part of this ends, and the "pretty gross" part begins. Beyond the DLC access, Premium members are said to get "access to powerful new features." What features might those be? "The ability to reset stats" is listed, but so is "queue priority into servers," which means exactly what it sounds like. As in, "pay for this service and get into servers faster than the rabble."

If this is true about the priority access, then we fucking called it 2 weeks ago. I'm about fucking done with EA. What a bunch of bullshit if true.

EDIT: Just saw this gem below: "Membership includes all 5 themed expansion packs for Battlefield 3 - including two week's early access." Fuck EA straight in the ass. They may have an even more onerous deal than Elite.

Leaked info below:

Screw that. As I told Johnny, I am done with these military shooters for good, and this is part of the reason. The biggest part is that I suck and they make me feel stabby IRL, and I don't want the things I do for fun to make me unhappy.

This is just a bunch of crap, though. Especially the member-only double XP events.

These military shooters don't give a shit about casual gamers, I thought that was clear 2 MW's ago.

I pretty much only play this game anymore so it really pisses me off to see the greed.

You know it's EA, right? The same people brought sports titles that already require online passes and that charge you for roster improvements, then shut down the servers nine months later? I'm only surprised they didn't get to market first on this one.

Well, that might be the end of me supporting these fuckers even where my favorite series is concerned. God damnit.

Just cancelled my pre-orders for NCAA and Madden. Maybe I'll use MW3 and BF3 to get them, among other's I'm trading in.

EA's comment to Joystiq when they reached out for comment:

"Looks like the excitement for Battlefield Premium cannot be contained. For details, please visit Battlefield.com on June 4."

Yeah, fuck EA. I'm done. Battlefield had a nice run.

So, $50 gets you 4 map packs (I'm not counting Karkland) which are going to probably run $10 or $15 each along with some bonus shit? It doesn't strike me as that different from a Gears season pass. That said, I think having people pay for premium server access and double XP is shitty. But overall, it doesn't feel like the sort of raping I would expect from EA.
