Lambshot - I picked up the season pass primarily for EASHL purposes and the fact I get 10 months or so out of the NHL release each year.

3 days of pre-release are pretty cool. I had no issues, connectivity was great although you do need 6.5GB of drive space to download the full game for those 3 days. One drawback is that there were at least 3 tuner updates so my belief is that EA is using the pre-release as a beta check if you will for the online portions to address glitches that are found (and unfortunately screwing some things up in the process, but as of last night the tuner set had settled down and it was playing well). As soon as the game is released, your download becomes unusable and you have to go buy the game --- However your profile, items unlocked, achievements etc associated with the game migrate over and I did not have any issues with that.

20% off of Downloadable content related to the game is nice. Slot boosts were in the 68 / 98 / 128 MS point range depending on level of boost. That's a hell of a lot of DL content to buy in order to make the 20% off worth it.

So as soon as you drop your 2000 MS points the clock starts running for 365 days of use. You get Madden, FIFA, NHL sports games early and I believe they throw in a few other goodies like free HUT card packs each month for NHL.

If you buy each years EA sports games and play online modes - It's worth it
If you only play one but play it alot - Have a few beersfirst, then buy it but it's probably worth it more than 99% the RB songs I got while tanked
Anything outside of that, I really don't think its worth

If you do decide to get it, I'd wait a few weeks. It does nothing for you at this point for NHL. I'd wait until right before FIFA comes out. Then you are sure to take advantage of it for the round of next years releases.

so are we doing OTP, or a league?

is the league the same as NBA or NFL, where you play offline until you have an online opponent?

Yes, I was about to create one but didn't really know what I was doing. We can do a private league with us, I will be the floor mat of course, but I would play.

Any tips for someone that just sucks ass at this game? Even basics.

Also, I have no idea how to save highlights, I just lost 2-1 which isn't too bad but I had a pretty sweet goal I tried to save and couldn't figure it out.

Rabb in years past the leagues did not have an option to play a full season. You basically pick a team and play only games against the others in the league. So for a 5 team league you play each opponent twice or something rather than an actual season against a mix of CPU and human controlled teams.

Not sure if it's different this year.

I don't normally play regular versus games. If I had to suggest some tips it would be to not rush on the offense. Try to get your entire team established in the offensive zone and pass around to the open man until you can get a quality shot on goal. Aim low, go for rebounds from the point and look for the forwards moving into the slot for an open one timer.

Speaking of one timers, As you initiate a pass to the open guy...go ahead and push up (hold it) on the shooting stick. This will queue up the computer controlled person you are passing to take the shot rather than just taking control of that player once the pass arrives.

One other thing - The hustle button (pressing down on the left stick as you are skating) is your friend. So is holding down the "A" button which allows you to control the puck on your stick in the offensive zone and resist poke checks. You would know about this controller configuration if EA hadn't taken the easy way out and actually included a manual with the game rather than burying it electronically in the game menus screen which is near impossible to find anything.

I've been praying for a league option other than this for many years. If I had the ability to play a dynasty using XBL against the CPU which would allow for friends to jump in and play on your team like you can in offline mode...I wouldn't play any other mode in this game. Sadly EA hasn't figured out a way to make money on this game mode and thus it will never happen.

I'm guessing they haven't done this for NHL because there are more games in a season. Madden and NCAA only have 12-17 games in a season, so it's not as much time to get a full season in.

Yeah the need for it was also effectively phased out by implementation of the EASHL.
However, and be warned I'm about to get a bit sentimental here....

There was nothing better than waiting for the latest version of NHL to come out each year starting with NHL94 on the Sega Genesis and starting up a season/dynasty and playing through it with a friend. Falling Man and I wasted a many afternoon, late nights, and empty Michelob Lights or IceHouses at that time taking the Canes to the cup. Then they built upon it with the capability to create our own players and track our individual stats over the season it was even better. Sadly, you always had to be on the same console to play this mode and if they only implemented this over Xbox Live Co-Op I would pay 3x times as much for the game. I would also LOVE to take it to the next level with a full team of friends playing a dynasty mode since I'd much rather play against a semi-realistic computer opponent then some 13yr old jackass that repeats the same thing over and over because it results in a goal 90% of the time thanks to a crappy glitch.

Aight enough of that. I'll always hold out hope, but it will never happen. In the immortal words of many texts I received last week,"Love You!"
