This is going to be a place where we can talk abut specific brews that we like. You can do a full review or just a few lines about it. Put the name of the beer as the subject then others can chime in with their experiences. Pictures encouraged. If you want to do it like the major beer review sites, write it as follows:

I like this idea. It really makes me want to drink some beer. You know, for the team.

So I imagine that we'll have a thread for each beer? That way people can chime in with their comments and questions for specific brews?

Exactly. Maybe add in the style of where it's from. Anything that you think is interesting. I want to shy away from posts that just say "this beer sucks" or "im waaaasted love smacky pappys frog alleeeeeee"

I am seriously looking forward to this. Whether it works out as planned or is a total train wreck, it's a win.

Plus it's a lot more cost effective and less hard on my liver than my planned series of vodka reviews that I never got around to.

That's my feeling exactly. I would love to do a full scale beer blog but I would tire of writing full reviews in a day or so. I also wish Untappd had a little more "umph" so this is a nice hybrid. I've found that it's also changed my drinking habits. I am now seeking out really good beer (we can buy singles in some stores) and taking my time to enjoy them. This will be a good place for everyone to see what else is out there.

5 stars = One of my favorite brews. I would go out of the way to find and pay more to drink this beer.
4 stars = Rock solid. I wouldn't turn down one of these beers and would easily recommend it.
3 stars = It's a reliable beer. Nothing fancy, nothing I'd seek out, but I don't regret drinking it.
2 stars = Well, at least it's beer. In a pinch, I could drink this. It will probably sit in the back of the fridge until my inlaws come over and I can pawn it off on one of them.
1 star = What the fuck have I done to anger the beer gods? If I finished the whole bottle, it was by a sheer act of super-human will (or on a dare).

Works for me. I always struggle with 3-4 star area because I know there are good beers that just aren't my cup of tea so how do I rate those? I've been going back and forth with Wrekcut about this issue (over beers of course) and it's still not resolved. I think for what we do here-judge it on how it tastes to YOU. I know if Lamb and I drink the same IPA, I will give it a much lower rating because I can't stand them and he loves.

Could either of you create a couple of smilies: one that's a mug of beer and another that is a half mug of beer. I think that would be cool to use as our rating at the bottom of beer reviews.

I've been using Untapped and will probabaly continue to do so but I'm not against posting some reviews in here as well. My problem is in how to describe the brews. I know what I like - I know what characterizes the main brew types - but I have no idea what the standard definition is of "crisp". It's like wine tasting. I can try to say I like xXx because it's peppery on my tongue yet when handed a "peppery" glass at a wine tasting all I can think is - "I do not think it means what you think it means"

SO long story short - anyone care to educate me or point me to a good source?
