Despite the weather.  Despite the outcome.  Tim McKernan, better known as “The Barrel Man”, passed away on Saturday morning after battling an inoperable respiratory disease.  He has been a local celebrity and true Bronco fan for 30 years and personified someone that truly bled Orange and Blue.  He originally started wearing the Barrel in 1977 after making a bet that he could get on TV.

Tim was 69 years old when he passed and he had retired from being the Barrel Man in 2007 due to medical reasons.  He was a mechanic for United Airlines and when 9 News asked how he wanted to be remember he said “I want them to think he was a good husband, a good father, a good family man and the ultimate Broncos fan”.

Farewell Tim, you will be missed and you really showed Denver what a true fan is.  Most importantly, you were a good man.  If there was ever a person that was not a player or coach that deserved to be in the Ring of Fame at Invesco, it is you.

Tim McKernan is survived by his wife, nine children, 14 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
