Chill out…seriously. I don’t normally rant, but I have to.
I am disappointed and tired of hearing Bronco “fans” this week complaining about the game on Sunday against the Ravens. Was it an ass beating? You bet. Was I happy about it? Not one bit.
I want to make sure that the fans complaining are aware, we are 6-1. That is the 4th best record in the entire NFL in case you are counting.
How can you possibly be upset with this? Is 16-0 the only acceptable finish?
I will tell you what I am upset about. I am upset that the people that were saying what a terrible QB Kyle Orton is are now coming out from hiding to say “I told you so”. Yes, he is terrible, never mind that he had nothing to do with our loss and everything to do with our wins to this point. You could have put Peyton Manning in Sunday and with the lack of blocking…he wouldn’t have fared much better.
Hell, I had us pegged for a 5-11 season so anything now is just gravy for me. What can I possibly be upset about? Didn’t you all read the preseason collective opinions that our season was over?
We still get Oakland, Kansas City (twice) and Washington. Let’s say we don’t win another game other than those…we are likely going to be sitting at 10-6, which may be enough for the playoffs. Now seriously, who out there in Orange and Blue land thought that was coming? Who thought we would beat Dallas, New England and San Diego? I sure didn’t. I also did not think we would beat the Ravens, although I thought it possible. They executed (pun intended) better and had more of a fire, that was clear. They won, we lost…we are still sitting at #4 in the league.
The same people who questioned Orton, are now questioning McDaniels. He lost one game out of seven people…yeah let’s call it a season and get Shanny back right? He is only 2 wins away from Shanahan’s 3 year average in wins per season already. But by all means, if mediocrity is what you want then call Mike up.
Does the team need some adjustments this week? Absolutely. Do they have a chance against the Steelers Monday? Absolutely. I am not saying they will win, but like the Baltimore game, they CAN win if they execute. If the line plays like it did Sunday, they will lose I can guarantee that. If not, then they have a chance.
So my message to my fellow Bronco fans from a very proud member of the nation: Don’t start pining for Jay and Shanahan just yet. Give your 2009 team a chance. The same team that has delivered the best start since our last Super Bowl season in 1998. The team that has one of the best defenses filled with “cast offs” I have seen in many years here. The very same team that has been exciting and dynamic to watch for 6 of 7 games this year. Keep the faith fellow fans, I guarantee the team is confident and will continue to compete for the rest of the season. The bandwagon may be on a bumpy road but I will be damned if I am jumping off.
