NFL: Denver Broncos at San Diego Chargers

The Denver Broncos are 6-0 and Denver fans and skeptics are reeling! The season could not be more unpredictable for the Denver Broncos. While I’m not a McDaniels fan, I can’t help but be enamored with his display of emotion on the sideline. I like it when he gets angry at Kyle Orton for making a mistake, pulling Knowshon Moreno after he fumbles, and screaming and pumping his fist after beating his teacher.

But like I have with the majority of my blogs, I have to say the real credit is due to Mike Nolan’s defensive adjustments. The Broncos are outscoring opponents 76 – 10 in the second half of games. That stat does include the New England Patriots who just put 59 points on the Tennessee Titans. Things are looking good in Denver for now. Elvis Dumervil is on his way to a Pro Bowl, Brandon Marshall is shutting up critics with unselfish play, and Kyle Orton is playing mistake free. The reason why Orton is commanding respect around the league without a rocket arm is because he finds the open man instead of forcing the ball, he plays smart and throws the ball away. The defense and offense believe in each other. It’s as if the offense is ok if they don’t get a touchdown on every possession because they believe and have confidence that defense will get them the ball back so they can get another shot.

What is promising is that the Broncos have a bye week before the play the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers, who have some of the best players in the AFC right now. Whether they win or lose, both games will be another test to see how Denver matches up with the elite teams in the AFC. As of right now the Denver Broncos are 6-0. The last time that happened was in 1998 when the Broncos won the Super Bowl. While its still a long way a way to crown them with a Super Bowl win, no team in NFL history has started 6-0 and missed the playoffs.
