We cover a lot of tailgating games on this site. While I’ve made many great friends in the industry, it’s nice to see something totally different come along to spice it up. As impressed people are with all of the games I’m able to pull out at a tailgate, I inevitably get asked if I have something different. Well, now I can answer that with a resounding “yes drunk friend I do”.
The reason I really love this product is that they went through what we did with this building tailgate365. Let’s try this…ehh maybe not. Ok let’s try this…better. How bout we add this…perfect. I fully understand the pain in tweaking something to get it exactly how you want it. Through these trials, creators David and Julie have given us one kick ass game to play…Hi-Tops.
Since our gaming area in the parking lot is normally filled with standard beer pong games, the appearance of Hi-Tops brought people over right away to give it a shot. As you can see, you get the two bases and the balls for tossing. I don’t think anyone really played an official game for at least a half hour as people honed their skills. I will say, this game takes skill! It was quite entertaining to watch “seasoned” parking lot gamers having to start over and learn a new game with a new throwing approach. I saw overhand rainbow shots, line drives and underhand Hoosier-style tosses. Unlike the slope provided in cornhole, you have to be extremely accurate to hit a sliding shot in Hi-Tops since the surface is flat (and very smooth). I personally adopted the underhand method, trying to at least make contact with the playing surface. There is a nifty return system so after every made shot, the ball simply slides down to you for your next throw. So you can see what we are dealing with, here are the rules:
In typical tailgate365 fashion, no one really read the rules and decided to make their own games. While it might not be what the manufacturer intended, this is the sign of a successful game for me. When people take the time to find new and creative ways to play your game, you’ve really got something solid on your hands.
At the end of the day, cleanup was quick and easy. Simply pull the support pole out of the top and bottom bases and you’re done.
Overall I think this is a really strong new entrant to the industry. It has the “wow” factor, offers something different and is easy to transport/setup. To me you can’t ask for much more than that. Not like you need another reason to buy this but I’ll give you one anyway…you can play indoors. This is certainly a game that is well made to move around your house if the weather won’t allow an outdoor game. With the cups secure in their holders, there is very little risk of spillage.
There are numerous color combinations available as well as customization of the top surface. Here is what you get with your purchase:
(2) Hi-Top Towers
(6) Metal Stakes (very helpful on grass surfaces)
(1) Package of Playing Cups
For a limited time they are also throwing in a carry bag. You can buy Hi-Tops here.
