Over the past few years my life has become quite busy with the addition of my two little girls (aka product durability testers). For the longest time even going to the store presented challenges. I started to buy more things on Amazon and did my very best to consolidate trips to stores. Anything marked “all in one” immediately caught my eye. Now my girls are a little older and easier to get around but I find myself still finding ways to keep it simple.
When I received MegaPongo the first thing I said to myself was “oh yeah I have everything I need right here”. No trips to the store for cups, heck, I didn’t even need to go to the pantry. This is a beer pong set made for people like me.
I take pride in my tailgating packing abilities so was instantly impressed with how this is put together. The two tables snap together to form a really nice unit to transport with handles. Inside is where the fun starts, they offer up everything you need to take this straight to the lot for some pong. With this kit you receive:
12 Ping Pong Balls
2 Ball Bags
2 Plastic Collection Cups
Metal Telescoping Legs
4 Built in Cup Holders
Setup was a breeze. You simply extend the (very sturdy) metal legs and insert into the bases. Install the backboard into the slots and you are pretty much ready to go. If wind is an issue as it tends to be in a parking lot, the legs can be left off and you have a sturdy tabletop game. If would take a good amount of wind to blow these over but knowing a table is an option is a plus. It stands 41” high with a 33” diameter (23” when packaged) so it’s big enough to hold its own.
I have a decent size collection of beer pong games and most come in a triangle shape which has been used since the beginning of time. What I really like about MegaPongo is that they decided to be a little different and use a circular pattern which allows for many more variations like Around the World (hit cups in order) or Ring of Fire (hit center stack and remove a cup, hit ring of fire and add one). You can come up with variations that should get more and more interesting as the drinking continues. Having 19 holes really changes things up over the standard 10 hole standard.
Of course my girls wanted to get their hands on it which showed another great feature. The backboard is obviously beneficial in competitive games to keep the ball from bouncing away but it’s also great for practice and for the kiddies. That’s not all though, the collection bag under the table is perfect for returning the ball after a throw. I removed the collection cups and placed a piece of angled cardboard under the hole. Anyone with kids knows that most 90% of any game is chasing a stray ball so I now had the perfect loop and all I had to do was sit and watch (just kidding no parent ever gets to sit…ever).
The kids loved it but I’m fairly certain they aren’t the target audience so I invited neighbors over to give it a whirl. Just as I expected, crazy cup patterns were used from the start so I knew that the circular pattern was a big hit. I’m fairly certain I didn’t see the standard triangle pattern once, Horse was the flavor of the day which allowed a good amount of turnover in the players.
When the day was done and it was time to stop enjoying some nice Spring weather the cleanup was also simple. Wipe the tables down and everything fit nicely back the way I found it. Products that don’t easily pack the way they arrived drive me crazy so I was relieved I wasn’t going to have to struggle with this. Couple clicks and I had the game sitting on a shelf in the top of a closet.
If you are looking for a portable beer pong setup that provides a ton of customization, MegaPongo is definitely one to consider. You can buy it here for $135.00 plus shipping.
