Eppa Sangria – Built for Tailgating

Posted By LT. Under Featured, Grub and Booze, Wine

Normally we cover spirits and beer here at Tailgate365 but all things change and we’re branching out. Who says wine can’t be part of our festivities?  As a Navy tailgater, I encounter many generations of people with a wide variety of tastes so we make every effort to have drinks that will make everyone happy.  One of our regulars started bringing a box of wine and surprisingly it took off.  That got me thinking of new ways to spice things up.

My search led me to the wine isle and Eppa sangria caught my eye.  What I like about sangria is that it is totally acceptable to put it into a parking lot safe container, the last thing I need is a wine snob attacking my wine vessel.  I also like that it is organic and full of antioxidants.  I’ll take all the help I can get after punishing my body with brats and beer.

I’ll admit I’m no wine expert but over the years I’ve developed a taste for what I like.  I’d say probably 75% of the wine in my house is syrah or shiraz, I’m a big fan of the powerful, peppery taste.  Since Eppa is a mixture of Cabernet and Syrah, it was the perfect starting point for my voyage.

Here is the description from Eppa:

Eppa SuperFruit Sangria begins with Mendocino Cabernet and Syrah, two delicious, quality varietals that create the basis for an unequaled sangria.

These wines come from Mendocino County, a part of California’s North Coast wine growing region.

Each varietal brings its own delicious characteristics to our superior blended sangria. The Cabernet provides structure and depth, and the Syrah layers on fruitier notes that complement the organic SuperFruit juices.

Real SuperFruit Juices

The fruit flavors in Eppa SuperFruit Sangria come from real, organic fruit juices, drawn from antioxidant-rich superfruits, including:

Pomegranate

Blueberry

Mediterranean Blood Orange

Acai

Unfortunately I found this after the season was over so I broke out a few bottles at a holiday party, garnishing with clementines since they are in season.  I had a glass before the crowd arrived and let me tell you, I was not disappointed.  It has a deep rich flavor from the Cabernet that is perfectly blended with fruit.  Eating the sangria soaked orange slices was an added bonus but pretty much any fruit would work with this.  My guests were also big fans, three bottles of Eppa were quickly disposed of and I was left with an angry mob (ok not really but they wanted more).  I will most certainly be adding this to the game day menu next year. Should you take my advice on this one (which you should), you can locate a bottle here.
