Bringing Singapore to Baltimore

Posted By LT. Under Beer, Featured, Grub and Booze, Sports, Tailgating

That title probably made little sense so I’ll explain.  This weekend marks the first time my alma mater, Towson University, has made the FBS playoffs.  Ours is a football history marked with many years of suffering.  Saturday represents a new chapter in the storybook of the greatest turnaround of any team in college football this year.  My Tigers took 3 wins in the past two years and turned it into a 9-2 record and Colonial Athletic Association championship.  Still wondering about the title aren’t you?  I’m getting there.

This weekend is huge for our program as we host Lehigh in a second round playoff game in freezing cold Baltimore, Maryland.  To commemorate this, my tailgating crew decided to come up with a menu supporting the Tigers.

The first question I received (not surprisingly) was “what are we drinking”.  After a quick scan of the brain’s beer archive, it seemed Tiger Beer from Singapore made the most sense.  It didn’t beat around the bush and the title fit so the decision was made.  For a little history, Tiger Beer is brewed by Asia Pacific Breweries which controls over 30 breweries.  Now look, I know I tend to blast macros on this site but this beer seemed destined for this tailgate so I’m going with it, I’ll take any licks I have coming.

Aside from the perfect name, we need a beer on hand that is capable of refreshing the taste-buds after a blasting from spicy sausages and the vats of hot sauce we consume.  That means something light and easy drinking.  There is always a selection of beer we take that reflects the season (winter brews, stouts, porters, etc) but we also know that after a bowl of chili from hell and stuffed jalapenos, something light fits the bill.

For those of you not familiar, Tiger Beer is going to give you the same taste profile as the American Lagers made famous by the larger US breweries.  What you can expect is an easy to drink beer that is going to be consistent every time you open a new bottle.

Now that we have the important decisions made, it’s off to plan a menu.  Go Tigers!
