Ravens 2009 Draft Class

Posted By LT. Under Uncategorized

I’ll break down each player over the next few days but here is the class:

1(23) Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi
2 (57) Paul Kruger, DE, Utah.
3 (88) Lardarius Webb, DB, Nicholls St.
5 (137) Jason Phillips, LB, TCU.
5 (149) Davon Drew, TE, East Carolina.
6 (185) Cedric Peerman, RB, Virginia.

A few quick thoughts. It’s not what I expected but taking Oher in the first round is a great pick to solidify what was already a strong, young offensive line. His presence will give the Ravens strong bookends with Gaither anchoring the left side.

I’m not sold on Drew right now. From what I read, he’s not a blocking TE which is not something that really fits the mold. Time will tell but I think they could have taken a higher quality player early.

Not taking a wide receiver is really bothering me. Newsome said in his press conference yesterday that they got to the AFC Championship with this offense so he feels good. While that statement is true, other teams that were in need addressed the weakness and may just jump over Baltimore this year. Tennessee was a very solid team last year but needed a big wide out so what did they do..they drafted Kenny Britt who can play right now.

Maybe the wizard has something up his sleeve.
